Weitra Castle, Retractable Umbrellas

Weitra Castle contains a rectangular Renaissance-style courtyard with a three-tiered arcade supported on granite columns.

To blend with the ornate design of the courtyard, four elegant inverted-style umbrellas were installed. They require no attachment to the beautiful inner walls of the structure. The umbrellas were design to overlap in order to provide complete coverage of the area below. This feature requires that deployment and retraction of the umbrellas be carefully synchronized.

SEFAR® Architecture TENARA® Fabric 40% light transmitting fabric was selected for this project so that the courtyard would retain its open feeling. The flexibility of SEFAR® Architecture TENARA® Fabric allows the umbrellas to fold compactly and drape gracefully as they move into place. In the evening, multi-colored lighting on the fabric creates a dramatic backdrop for dining, theater or corporate gatherings.
